Traffic Safety
|
On this page, you will find information that may help you become a better driver and will tell you about some of the programs that our Patrol Division/Traffic Safety Unit are working on. Stop back here frequently to see what's new. We will be adding tips and new traffic laws as they become available.
We are not currently participating in any federally funded Traffic Safety Programs. During the past year, we participated in Click It or Ticket, and CARD (Comprehensive Alcohol Risk Reduction). The Merrill Police Department participated in the CARD grant along with us. During the CARD grant, numerous citations were issued to bartenders who were not in compliance with Wisconsin law as it regards to serving persons under the age of 21. Move Over Law This law was created by the Wisconsin Legislature to help prevent injuries and deaths to our emergency service, and highway maintenance workers on our streets and highways. Click on the statute to read about this very important law and your responsibilities as a driver. Click above to go to the Wisconsin DOT website on Child Safety Seat Resources. We have also enclosed a PDF file that you can download to your computer that contains a flow chart and description of the Booster Law in Wisconsin. You can access that by clicking here; Booster Law
Please help us make our roads safer for you and your families by following these simple tips. 1. Always allow extra time for your travels. 2. Maintain a 3 second space between you and the vehicle in front of you (this is approx 225 ft. at 65 mph) 3. Give Motorcycles the room they deserve on the highway. They have as much right to be there as you do. 4. Stay alert; don't get behind the wheel if you're tired. Take a break. 5. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, GIVE SOMEONE WHO HASN'T BEEN DRINKING THE KEYS 6. Drive Defensively; try to maintain an area of protection by not crowding other motorists and not letting them crowd you. Remember: A Happy Motorist is a Safer Motorist. Your voluntary compliance with the law can save lives, we can only help. Let's make this a partnership we can all live with!!! If you have any specific questions you would like answered, you may email me, or call me at 715.536.6272 or 715.453.5747. Deputy Peter Annis
